Our Story



YEAR: 1993

  • CHYN Nonya is a family-owned business founded in May 1993. We started as a sole proprietorship and was named “Chyn Nonya Cakes and Confectionery“. The founders insisted on having the word ‘Nonya’ in the company name even though Nonya Kuehs were not the main item for sale. This is because it binds them to their father, Mr Poh Khan Swee’s kueh business “Hup Seng 合成”. Mr Poh had been making these simple delicacies since the 1930s.
  • During the initial years, Chyn started off selling bread and cakes while providing Full Month Gifts and Wedding Gift Pack services to families celebrating their bundles of joy. At that time, we were the only company to provide heart-shaped wedding cakes gift set. We were also the first company to have the names printed on the boxes of the gifts packages.
  • In 1993, we started business in the Bukit Gombak area and relocated to Jurong West a year later at a new store. As Jurong West turned silver over the 12 years and business was on the decline, Chyn moved to Marine Parade Central in early May 2005 and has since settled down to this date.

 

YEAR: 1994

  • In 1994, we produced the first Fresh Durian Moon Cake for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Since then, we have also produced many new favours every year.

 

YEAR: 1995

  • Since 1995, our Chinese New Year cookies have always been a favourite as we source for new healthy ingredients to make new cookies for our customers.

 

YEAR: 2000

  • In 2000, we expanded our business online and introduced a series of Party Sets and Value Meal packs with finger food for our corporate clients to cater to their small meetings and training snacks.

 

YEAR: 2005

  • In 2005 Chyn chanced upon a lesson on making Tai Yang Bing from a Taiwanese chef. Using ingredients that are readily available in Singapore, we recreated this Tai Yang Bing that is tailored for Singaporean taste buds. We named it “Singapura CHYN Tai Yang Bing”. Since then, we have created more than 9 different flavours.

 

YEAR: 2013

  • In 2013, we started to produce bread using natural yeast for our health conscious Singaporeans.

 

YEAR: 2015

  • In October 2015, we produced the healthy European Soft Bread with less oil, less salt and less sugar.
  • In the recent years, CHYN has been featured in major newspapers and internet blogs due to the innovation in our products which was recognised as ones suitable for the picky taste buds of Singaporeans.
  • Till today, we are still striving to create new and high quality confectioneries to enchant our customers.
